CCYC Oktoberfest over the Years
September 30 - October 1
Oktoberfest is an event that is filled with tradition, food and fun. In Germany and other places around the world, it is a beer festival and travelling fair that is held from mid to late September into the first week of October, during which large amounts of beer and traditional German food is consumed.
Over the years, the CCYC Oktoberfest raft up has been an enduring club tradition as well. Virtually every year from 1994 onward - and likely before that - we have gathered in late September to share sailing stories and good times, as well as the brats and beer and other festive foods that we identify with this German celebration.
We are pleased to announce that we will carry on that tradition this year in the Rhode River on September 30th and October 1st. As has been the custom for many years, the club will provide the brats, rolls and some good German beer (and perhaps some surprises) to get the festivities going. We plan to begin firing up the grills around 4:00 PM, so please be prepared to bring either a traditional German side dish or dessert to share with the raft.
ViewFinder will be at anchor on Saturday at approximately noon, after which you can hail us on VHF channel 72. We would appreciate it if you could RSVP no later than Monday, September 25th to let us know if you will be coming and the number in your party so that we can plan for the purchase of the food and drinks. Also, please note in your RSVP if you have a grill and can contribute to the cooking.
We are happy to continue the CCYC Oktoberfest tradition that was started years ago and has been so ably captained by so many before us. We would especially like to recognize and thank Wayne and Joan Savage who made Oktoberfest a successful event for so many years. It is our hope to keep the tradition going this year and into the future.
Looking forward to seeing you all then! Smooth sailing!
